"Surface-Directed Molecular Assembly of Organic Semiconductors for High Performance Organic Electronics"

Abstract

Microstructure in organic semiconductor thin films has been regarded as the key factor determining the performance of the organic electronics. In the case of organic field effect transistors (OFETs) and organic photovoltaics (OPVs), the control of the surface characteristics of underlying substrates can govern the mesoscale and/or nanoscale ordering of the semiconductor assembled on them. Here, we present various approaches for controlling the growth of organic semiconductors on gate dielectrics and electrodes to achieve high performance OFETs and OPVs.

"Functional integrated smart plastic system with all-inkjet-printed solar cells"

Abstract:

We present a functional integrated plastic system with arrays of OFETs and printed components driving an electrophoretic ink display up to 70 mm by 70mm on a single flexible transparent plastic foil. Among the circuit functions and features demonstrated on the arrays are a 7-stage ring oscillator, a D-type flip-flop memory element, a 2:4 demultiplexer, a programmable array logic device (PAL), and printed wires and resistors. Organic solar cells were attempted to be integrated monolithically on the substrate by an additive inkjet-printing method in air. Highly controlled conducting and semiconducting films using engineered inks for inkjet printing enable good efficiencies for printed OPVs between 2 and 5% power conversion efficiency.
